Frequently Asked Questions
OWNERSHIP & PROVENANCE
Every Founders Issue piece carries an individual code.
For example:
FI.02.06
FI - Founders Issue
02 - The Warrant
06 - The sixth example of twenty
The code is stamped discreetly onto the piece itself, recorded on its Certificate of Authenticity and entered into the House Register.
The House Register is the permanent record of selected pieces issued by Balfour Cairns.
It records the identity of the piece, its individual code, year of issue and original Registered Owner, establishing provenance from the moment it is issued by the House.
The first owner of a registered Balfour Cairns piece is recorded by the House as its Registered Owner.
We prefer the term to "customer".
The relationship should, after all, last rather longer than the transaction.
House Collection pieces may carry their owner's unique House Code.
For example:
EJC.26.003
EJC - Registered Owner's initials
26 - Year of registration
003 - Third Balfour Cairns piece registered to that owner
As an owner's collection grows, so does their record with the House.
A personal history with the House, one piece at a time.
Every numbered Founders Issue piece is accompanied by its Certificate of Authenticity.
The Certificate records the identity of the piece, its individual number, year of issue and original Registered Owner and should remain with the piece throughout its life.
Selected pieces can.
The options depend upon the collection and object, from House Codes to details created specifically for the owner.
We believe personalisation should make something more personal, not make it look as though it has been attacked by a monogramming machine.
Coachbuilt is the bespoke service of Balfour Cairns.
It exists for clients who require something more individual, whether a variation of an existing House piece or a commission conceived for a particular purpose.
