Our responsibility does not end when a piece leaves the House. Balfour Cairns pieces are made to be carried, used and lived with. With considered care, exceptional materials will acquire character over time and continue to serve for many years to come.
MADE TO BE USED
A Balfour Cairns piece should acquire character.
Fine leather will soften, deepen in tone and develop a patina through handling, travel and use. These changes are not something we seek to prevent. They are part of the story of the piece.
There is, however, a distinction between character and neglect. A little considered care will allow exceptional materials to age exceptionally well.
HOUSE CARE
Guidance on caring for your particular piece is always available from the House.
Where appropriate, we can advise on cleaning, conditioning, storage and the treatment of leather, metalwork and other materials to help your piece age as it should.
REPAIRS
Things occasionally happen. Luggage is mishandled. Leather is caught. Hardware bears the evidence of a life properly lived.
Where a Balfour Cairns piece can reasonably be repaired, our preference will always be to repair rather than replace.
Contact the House with details and photographs of the piece. We will assess it and advise on the appropriate course of action, likely timescale and any applicable cost before work begins.
MANUFACTURING FAULTS
Should you believe your piece has
developed a fault resulting from its manufacture, please contact the House.
We will assess the piece and, where a manufacturing fault is confirmed, seek the most appropriate resolution, whether repair, replacement or another remedy in accordance with your statutory rights.
